Supplies for Successful Beginner Lettering

Hey, friends!

As promised, hereโ€™s a short but helpful list of everything youโ€™ll need to be successful in my online lettering course Hand Lettering for the Creative Soul: A back-to-basics guide to lettering for fun.

The best part - you probably have most or all of these supplies already. If youโ€™ve already got these, awesome. You donโ€™t need anything else! (There are no wrong supplies, either. If youโ€™ve got something similar, use that.) If youโ€™re missing a few things, thatโ€™s cool too. Iโ€™ve got you. Grab these items easy-peasy by clicking on the item name below, and youโ€™ll be ready to get started.

*Just to let you know, this post contains affiliate links, which means if you decide to purchase some of these items, Iโ€™ll receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. (Win win, amirite?)

Here we go!

  • Pencil - I prefer standard #2 pencils for lettering because the lead doesnโ€™t break as often. This is personal preference.

  • Loose Paper - Youโ€™ve probably got some of this laying around, or if you have a sketchbook, tear some pages out.

  • Ruler - Youโ€™ve probably got one of these, too. Any straight-edge will do.

  • Tracing Paper - This was a game-changer for when I started working in layers.

  • Felt-Tipped No-Bleed Markers - For tracing your final pieces. The no-bleed is crucial - this will keep your line edges from spreading past your intentional marks.

  • Sharpener - In case you donโ€™t have one already and you purchase shiny new #2 pencils.

  • Eraser - For those marks you just canโ€™t live with.

Catch you soon,
๐Ÿ–คMegan
